Having a "vlast"
August 25, 2008 in dubai indonesia

Goodbye Dubai, Hello Indonesia.

Saturday afternoon I arrived in Indonesia. A move I'd been planning for a couple of months now. After three and a half years Dubai I'd seen it over there. Let me list some of the things I won't miss. Don't worry, it won't be a total bashing and I'll list some stuff I will miss as well.

What I won't miss:

  • The horrible sewage smell in International City, where I lived for a year. Honestly, who builds a massive residential complex right next to a sewage treatment plant when you've got so much space in the desert?
  • People tailgating you at 180 km/h. Not using signals and not having a clue about how to use fog lights properly (which is hardly ever fyi).
  • Total lack of respect for others and the environment.
  • The heat

What I will miss:

  • The friends I made over there in those three years. And friends who were already there and helped me to get where I am today.
  • Good roads; limitless budgets.
  • The Golden Stars Band in the Marine's Club at the Sea View hotel.
  • Michael Hendrickx, everyone at Spinbits, Tyra, Alice, Rami, Jennifer, my friends at TCF and everyone I forgot to mention.

But for new times to begin, you need things to end. And if you take care of the people you meet along the way, moving doesn't really end anything.

Oh and don't worry about the post title. It was coined by a friend who is a English literature major, so it's okay!

note to self: get rss implemented. Sorry Rami!
